This month’s volunteer opportunity on the Horse-Shoe Trail has been rescheduled from March 1st to March 15th.
The Horse-Shoe Trail Conservancy is rerouting a small portion of the trail that happens to be on a part of the trail that the Pagoda Pacers have agreed to help maintain. They have requested that we provide some help with this effort. The planned date is March 15th, 2025, at 10 a.m. Parking is where the Horse-Shoe Trail crosses Gebhart School Road in Brecknock Twp.
The scope of work includes:
We are looking for 3-5 people that don’t mind getting their hands dirty. The HST Conservancy will provide all the required tools. Gloves are recommended.

Contact Shaun Luther at charliehorsedirector@pagodapacers.com to confirm you can help or if you have any questions.

We have an upcoming volunteer opportunity that will give you a chance to learn some trail-building and maintenance skills.

The Pacers membership table will be set up at this free event on September 24th from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. It is an all-ages, pet-friendly, outdoor, community event celebrating health and wellness. Sounds like a perfect place to promote our club and what we are all about amongst other like-minded, healthy, active people. If you have some time to spare and would like to represent the Pacers at this event, please reach out to Michelle Henry (president@pagodapacers.com) for more details. This is a good way to cross off a volunteer block on your Pacer Passport. You can learn more about the event here. If you already planned on being at the event, but sure to stop by our table and say hi!
Our first clean-up on Mt Penn was a big success!
Sadly, though, there’s still a lot more work to be done.
Our next work day is scheduled for Saturday, August 28th, from 9am to 12pm. Meet at the Fire Tower. Save the date, spread the word, and if you’re into the Facebook thing, CLICK HERE to let others know you’re going.

Great volunteer opportunity the Saturday after Earth Day!
Help is needed to clean up trash along Duryea and Skyline Drives on Mount Penn! (Last year we also tackled Oak Lane.)
This is our chance to tidy up around the Pagoda, Pacers!
Meet at 8:30am on Saturday, April 24th at the intersection of Duryea Drive and Lombard Street.
Bring gloves, drinking water, and landscaping tools (if you have them).

See you there!
The Schuylkill River Trail (SRT) is a treasure to our running, biking and outdoor loving community. Our club is donating money to improve safety conditions and we are forming a group to help on the volunteer day: March 27. We have 20 Pagoda Pacer T-Shirts and car magnets for volunteers. If you register to volunteer and would like a T-Shirt, email you name and size to info@pagodapacers.com. You must register to volunteer. Thank you.

There are two youth events that Pacers get involved with this time of year; one is an official Pacer event, and one is where club members help with and provide volunteers for.
The “FALL RUN OFF INVITATIONAL” is a junior high 2-mile cross country race which will be held at the Reading Fairgrounds on October 24th. The club presents and supports this race as a community service activity, which is in its twelfth year and serves about 220 Berks County 7th and 8 grade runners. We need volunteers for race day activities, as well as for some clerical duties for a few evenings leading up to race day. Pacers have reported that they enjoy working at this race and get a great deal of satisfaction out of watching and supporting these young harriers. The entire event takes about 4 hours from start to finish ( 7AM to 11AM) but any amount of time you can provide is greatly appreciated.
The other event is the Berks County High School Cross Country Championship Meet to be held on October 20th from 11:30AM to 2PM at Schuylkill Valley High School in Leesport. Club members provide manpower for finish line management and course marshaling. This is an ideal opportunity for retirees who wish to contribute to the running community. Also, since spectators will be substantially reduced because of COVID compliance, this is a great opportunity for members who are parents of these runners to get a front row seat on the course or at the finish.
Both events are COVID compliant and every precaution will be taken to safely protect runners and workers.
