Register NOW for the Oley Valley Country Classic to Guarantee a Shirt!

This year’s Oley Valley Country Classic will be held on Sunday, November 2nd at the Oley Valley High School (17 Jefferson Street, Oley, PA). The 10-miler will go out at 9 a.m. and the 6k run/walk around 9:05 a.m.  Don’t forget that this is the 1st day after Daylight Saving Time ends, so you’ve got an extra hour to sleep in before coming out.

As many of you now know, this year we are honoring and remembering the original and longtime OVCC Race Director Barry Goodhart who passed away this past winter.

Fall is well under way and the October 17th pre-registration date to guarantee a shirt is fast approaching!!!! Our pre-registration numbers are nearly 2x last year’s count at this time, and we’re getting super excited!!! So don’t wait: sign up today, join the fun, have a great time, and get a fabulous piece of swag!!!

If running November 2nd is not in your plans, we’d love to have you come out and help with the race.  There are still nearly 30 volunteer slots that need to be filled, and we can’t pull this race off without volunteers.

Course distances are 10 miles and (new this year) 6K, so both races will start & finish in front of the high school. Given the usually perfect early November running weather, this is a great opportunity to work your 10-mile PR or PR a new distance (it’s only 1 more K). If you’re planning for a late fall marathon, the 10-miler course is a perfect way to tune up. If you’re looking for a nice Sunday morning long/short run or country walk, this event is just for you. Getting ready for the Shiver 5K/10K series or the Kris Kringle 5-miler? The 6K is a great place to mark a baseline pace. Both courses are set in the picturesque Oley Valley, where the leaves will likely be near peak color, making for a beautiful late-fall run. The routes have been finalized and can be found here for the 10-miler course map and here for the 6K course map.

Registration/Cost:  The mail-in print application is on Pretzel City Sports here, and on-line registration is here.  Fees are $40 for the 10-miler and $35 for the 6K if completed/received/postmarked before October 17th with shirt guarantee (afterwards, fees will be $45/$40 with no shirt guarantee). Online registration closes on October 31st, but day-of race registration will be available.

SWAG: This year’s swag is a long-sleeved shirt like previous years, but now with a hood!!! …. AND….. it’s available in both men’s and women’s sizes!!!! Additionally, instead of the usual hex sign, this year’s logo pays tribute to Barry. Note: the initial printing of the car image did not turn out as well as we liked, so we re-ordered. Check out the samples below!

AWARDS: 5 year age groups (including 80+) are available in both the men’s/women’s categories of each race, and the 6K has added an under-14 category.  Also, the 10-miler is an RRCA Eastern Regional Championship, so there’s a chance of double awards for some people. And…. Door prizes will be given out to random bib numbers, for each race, at the end of each awards ceremony, so keep following the Pacer social media for details as the date gets closer!!!

Post Race Spread: There’ll be light fare consisting of Philly soft pretzels / bagels / fruit / water.  Also, Munchiez and Fresh Frenchy’s food trucks will be on-site for other food item for purchases.

WNR: Come check out portions of the course in advance on October 8th — the Pacer Wednesday Night Run will be at the Oley High School (we’ll meet in the parking lot) with 5K/10K routes to run, and post-run refueling at Bella Italia!

Barry George Goodhart, 84, of Robesonia, PA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 19, 2025. Barry was at home surrounded by his loving family, as a beautiful snowstorm blanketed the area. He was the devoted husband of the late Diane Louise (Auchenbach) Goodhart, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage. Born at home, in Stonersville, PA, he was the son of the late Clarence George “Doc” and Evelyn Grace (Orr) Goodhart and the grandson of the former Berks County sheriff and auctioneer Victor L. Goodhart.

From a young age, Barry was always on the move, embracing the outdoors in every way possible. Whether it was golfing, cycling, basketball, canoeing, skiing, camping, or hiking, he found joy in all activities that allowed him to connect with nature. A lifelong competitive runner, Barry cherished the memories of his many years in the sport. He was a dedicated and active member of the Pagoda Pacers Running and Cycling Club, where he not only competed but also generously volunteered his time and energy. Barry played a role in organizing races and rides, assisting with a variety of behind-the-scenes tasks, and ensuring the race-day needs of the athletic community were met with care and efficiency. In 1995, Barry launched a new running race for the Pagoda Pacers in Oley, PA, taking on the role of director for the Oley Valley Country Classic 10-Mile Road Race. He approached this responsibility with unwavering dedication and enthusiasm. The event’s overwhelming success led to the addition of a 5K race in 1998, further enriching the race’s tradition. This race celebrated its 30th anniversary in November, a testament to Barry’s lasting impact on the running community.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2025 beginning at 11:00 am at Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. 2100 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading, PA 19606. After the ceremony, family and friends will come together for a procession of Corvettes. Leading the way will be Barry’s cherished 1960 silver Corvette, as we take him and Diane on one final journey through the countryside. Along the route, we’ll pass by some of the places that held special meaning to Barry. This heartfelt road trip will conclude at the Stonersville Fire Company, located just next door to the very place where Barry was born 84 years ago. We invite you to join us in celebrating Barry’s “Last Ride”.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Skyline Drive Corvette Club Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 14231, Reading, PA 19612. Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of arrangements. Munchiez Food Truck will be on site cooking up their menu. The Pagoda Pacers will also have light post-race fare available.

Run your best 10M and finish on the track of the Oley Valley High School!

The 5K–for safety’s sake–has measured out to 3.25 miles. I’m sorry, but with the race location this year and the rural area, we are limited on road choices and the best loop we have devised is a little bit longer than your typical 3.1.  It’s really in the best interest unless you want to run up a gigantic hill or evade traffic on a road that’s not-the-best for a race. The roads we are using are the best for the safety of our runners.

Croc-O-Mile: I think this is the funniest idea! Run your best in Crocs (or equivalent) on the Oley High School Track. Sign up in advance or on race day for this no frills fun run in your favorite rubber shoe! Only $5!

We are actively looking for volunteers to help us make this race go smoothly. Please click on the link below if you are interested in volunteering:

OVCC Set for 11/3/24

Mark your calendar: Sunday, November 3, 2024—we will run and celebrate the 30th annual Oley Valley Country Classic 10-Miler and 5k. This will be a special, one-of-a-kind event!

This year, the race will start and end at Oley Valley High School. Pre/post-race activities and registration will be indoors. There will be plenty of off-street parking for this year’s RRCA Eastern Regional Championship race. Despite the new starting location, the course will be almost entirely identical to the previous year’s course.

This course is awesome: slightly rolling hills over rural roads along Oley’s beautiful landscape. The changing leaves and cool temps this time of year add to the scenic nature of the Fall Classic.

Munchiez Food Truck will be on site serving breakfast plus their regular menu! We will also serve some post-race fare—carbs and fruit!

Register by October 21 to guarantee your long sleeve shirt, and join us at this great event! The shirt will incorporate past logos as well as a unique one for our 30th running of the OVCC!

Follow us on Facebook (oleyvalleycountryclassic) for updates and more race details.

Links to our race application and online registration will soon be available on our website: https://www.pagodapacers.com/Races-Results/Races/Oley-Valley-Country-Classic.aspx

Croc-o-Mile

A new special event this year will be the running of the 1st annual Croc-O-Mile!  Who is the fastest human in Crocs? Lets find out…it’s all for fun and for charity anyway, so enjoy running the Croc-O-Mile on the high school track for only $5. We will run this event throughout the morning, so you will have ample chance to run our primary events (10M/5K) and still squeeze in a Croc-O-Mile!

More details to come on this, but count on it being fun! People may travel from all over the world for the first Croc-O-Mile!

Looking forward to an exciting morning for everyone to run their hearts out!
