2021 Oley Classic Recap

by Lenny Burton

What a great race!!! Thank you to all the runners volunteers and everyone that helped make this race a great success at its new location. Great indoor facilities, hot food and drinks and the shirts looked awesome as did the awards.

Andrew Brown, 37 of Fleetwood PA was the 10 Mile winner on the new course, finishing in 1hr 3 mins 4 seconds. Way to go on the big win Andrew!

Congratulations to our 5K winner Mihai Sanchez, 23 of Reading PA for his 18:05 time.

With over 200 participants, we are proud of the event that we put together. Our proceeds will benefit the Oley Valley Ambulance Association and the Pagoda Pacer Scholarship Fund.

Thank you to Gallen Insurance, Fleetwood Footcare, Villa Graphics, and our handmade-awards artist Maggie Gallen. Also the RRCA for their continued support and providing the aid station supplies.

We are looking forward to building on this event next year and are excited about the experience we have learned with the new course and the new venue.

We will have the aid stations earlier in the course and will move the finish line closer to the main grandstand of the fairgrounds.

I’m already excited about next year and am open to any ideas or suggestions you have to make next year’s event a great one.

Again thank you to all and we look forward to seeing you next year!!

Oley Valley Apple Classic Less Than Six Weeks Away!

by Lenny Burton

The temperatures are dropping, and the applesauce weather is slowly becoming crisper like a beautiful, fresh, fall apple.  Open your calendar and mark off Saturday, October 9th as the Oley Valley Apple Country Classic Ten Mile and 5K run!

This new course will begin at the Oley Fairgrounds on the same day as their annual Apple Festival. This rolling-hill course takes you through some beautiful farm-country scenery in the Oley Valley. Breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the sights as the leaves change while you test your endurance running on a flat, fast course (with a few hills, at times), but doable for runners of all abilities.  The final miles take you past historical architecture on Main Street in Oley and finishing at the Oley Fairgrounds to apple fanfare.  The 5K is a shorter version of the same course, with a flat and friendly homestretch down historic Main St, finishing in the Fairgrounds.

Each runner will receive a $5 voucher for hot food and drink, while additional food will be available for purchase.

Maggie Gallen, local glass artist, will be making this year’s awards. They are creative and unique, and we wish everyone luck in this year’s event.

The Pagoda Pacers will support the hydration stations and intersections while providing split times at most miles.

Proceeds benefit the Oley Ambulance Association and the Pagoda Pacer Scholarship fund.

Thank you to Gallen Insurance for their race sponsorship!

Come enjoy the morning and bring your friend Bob to see if he can run for his apples!

We are also looking for race volunteers! Please contact a race director, Lenny Burton (leonardeburton@gmail.com) or Barry Goodhart (barrygoodhart@gmail.com) !

The NEW Oley Country Classic

by Len Burton

Coming October 9th–just one week after Blues Cruise–the Pagoda Pacers will be hosting the 27th annual Oley Valley Apple Country Classic!

This year the 10 mile and 5k event will be celebrated at the Oley Fairgrounds and proceeds will benefit the Oley Ambulance Association. We are excited about indoor registration, a great new course, and a post-race apple festival for the entire community!

The excitement is brewing and we look forward to our new fall country classic.

Volunteers (and runners) needed for Oley!

The Oley Valley Country Classic 10 Mile and 5K event will be on Sunday, November 10. Come out and support the runners and the club by volunteering to help make the race a success!  There’s plenty to do: race set up, runner registration, course marshal, or clean up.  Please reach out to Barry Goodhart: barrygoodhart@gmail.com or Len Burton:  leonardeburton@gmail.com to let them know you can participate. You can race and volunteer on the same day, and we will assign you accordingly.  There will be same-day registration and extra shirts available while they last! Come out and have a great day with fellow Pacers running or volunteering!  See you on race day, and follow us on Facebook:  OleyValleyCountryClassic10Mileand5kRun

Oley Country Classic: Volunteer or Register!

The OLEY VALLEY COUNRY CLASSIC runs have been a great event for

the past 24 years due to the support of the many volunteers that

come out early on a Sunday morning in November, braving the weather

of the day.

This year we hope for nice seasonal weather to gather 400 to 500

eager runners to compete in the 5K and 10 Mile runs, but again this

event will need club support with volunteers to cover many of the

areas of the race.  Pacers that want to run one of the runs can help

out early at the registration area and then run a desired run.

There will be a sign up sheet at the Pagoda pacers October meeting

for volunteers to pick an area to help.
