Blues Cruise ’23 Update

We are less than 10 weeks away from the Blues Cruise 50k ultramarathon, and the management team is working hard to produce another great Pagoda Pacer event. We have close to 140 registered racers, and the number has been climbing daily. Please considering running this exciting race. Sign up at by clicking the link below!

https://ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=100611

The race is Sunday, October 1, 2023 with start/finish activities located at Blue Marsh Lake’s Dry Brooks Day Use Area.

As the club’s most logistically ambitious event, we need 100 volunteers to create a safe, smooth, and fun event.  Volunteer tasks includes trail maintenance the entire month of September, food shopping and prep, trail marking the eve of race day, final course check, photographers, lots and lots of help on race day (volunteers can schedule themselves 1–12-hour shifts), and post race help putting all the equipment and supplies back into service. This is a great opportunity for “first time” Pacer volunteers!  We will sign your Pacer Passport for any work you provide!

To ease the task of volunteer management, we are ask all volunteers to please pre-register at https://ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=100611. You DO NOT need to be a member of Ultrasignup to register as a volunteer, and there is no fee.  The page is set up by category; feel free to sign up for several tasks that interest you, and we will be in contact to place you in a position that fits you well. If you are not running and cannot volunteer, consider spending 30 minutes along the course cheering on our runners!

We will be posting practice runs at Blue Marsh that are open to anyone. We will be posting additional race information on the Pacers’ Blues Cruise 50k Facebook page. Please contact Elaine Cook or Michael Whalen with any questions (bluescruiserd@gmail.com).

This event will take place on Sunday, August 6, at 9 a.m. at the Berks County Heritage Center (Red Bridge).

Don’t feel like racing? Email race director Jason Karpinski (gringsmilldirector@pagodapacers.com) and tell him you’d like to volunteer.

Held in beautiful NOLDE FOREST!

Rolling, age-graded start begins at 8:30 a.m.

This is quite the bargain for a race entry of only $30! However, the reduced registration price deadline is rapidly approaching.

You have until Wednesday, June 7 to get the lower price and guarantee swag for the Sunday, June 25, 2023 race. After that, the entry will go to $35 with no swag guarantee.

Run For the Ages 10k is run on the trails and service roadways in beautiful Nolde Forest near Reading, PA. The age-graded start gives any age-group competitive runner a chance to win the race outright.

Fastest overall runner gets a super cute Nolde Forest Pottery turtle, and the first 10 overall finishers get Nolde Forest Pottery plates. Fleet Feet Running Store certificates go to the top three finishers and top age-group medals will also be awarded.

We do allow walkers. Same entry fee and swag as runners, but just not eligible for awards due to an earlier start time of 8 a.m. which will provide ample time to finish with the running participants. *If you are thinking of walking the course, please contact the race director prior to race day.

Part of all race proceeds will be donated to the Friends of Nolde for park projects and improvements.

This year’s swag is a cool pair of turtle and hare socks which are available in 3 sizes. Swag is guaranteed to the first 150 registered (and we are already half way there). After that, availability will be based on inventory left. Get registered to guarantee yours!

Run for the Ages 10k Trail Chase Will Knock Your Socks On

Run for the Ages -where anybody might win the race!

Come out for a quite different kind of trail race on Sunday, June 25, 2023!

Run For the Ages has an age-graded start. Top age group performers have a legitimate shot at the overall title.

What’s an age-graded start? Those who have more than a few gray hairs or have yet to hit puberty will get a head start based on age and gender. Typically, the oldest female wave starts first. Then the next wave will start, based on 5-year age groups, working back toward the younger (faster?) folks. Wave starts will bounce back and forth between sexes, as the handicap derived from the World Masters Association dictates.

Even if you aren’t out to win, the race is run on challenging (yet very runnable) trails in beautiful Nolde Forest, has great schwag (this year it’s socks), and virtually no bottle necks. Challenge your families and coworkers to come out and compete on a “level” playing field.

Hey ringers: Here’s a chance to show off a little by passing the whole pack!

Run For the Ages is held annually in BEAUTIFUL NOLDE FOREST – READING, PA with a portion of the proceeds going to the Friends of Nolde Forest, a non-profit group helping to maintain Nolde Forest.
