33rd Annual Shiver Series Just a Couple Months Away!

The 33rd annual SHIVER by the RIVER 5K & 10K is quickly approaching. The first one is Dec 11th, at Jim Dietrich Park, in Muhlenberg Twp. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m.; both races start at 10:00 a.m. If you can’t run all 4 of them, run 3, run 2, or run 1.

Runners can register online at Pretzel City Sports or by mailing the app and a check; we will also have race-day registration. Apps can be printed from the Pacer website.  Pre-registration deadline is 11/18. Instead of another race shirt, we are offering a knit hat and gloves. Each race includes a post-race buffet of soup, pretzels, and snacks.

If you choose not to run the race, please consider volunteering. We need volunteers before the race, for parking and registration; during the race – on the road, at the finish line, and in the farmhouse; and after the race – for cleanup.  Thank you in advance for your support!

Hope to see you there!!!

Pacers Donate to Berks County Special Olympics

We presented our donation to the Special Olympics of Berks County from proceeds from the Charlie Horse Trail Half Marathon and Dirty Pony 5K, with additional donations from race participants and the Pagoda Pacers A.C.  We made the presentation at the SO Bocce team practice at St Marco’s in Temple. The team practices once a week from August to late October and then attends a competition at Fall Fest at Villanova in November.

Wednesday Night Runs (October ’22 Locations)

Our mid-week group runs have at least two different distance options (3-4 miles and 5-6 miles) with an appointed leader for each route. Each run will have its own Facebook “event,” and the routes will be posted a couple days before the run. After each run, those who can will stick around for food, drink, and good conversation, either at a nearby restaurant or a club member’s residence. Come for the run; stay (if you can) for the fellowship. (If you don’t have time to stick around, no worries–just come run with us!)

Pacer Passport: Still within reach!

Technically it’s not too late to start on one of these, but you must act now because time IS running out!

Throughout the year we have implemented some improvements to make this a little easier to complete. Changes include:

  • An extended due date to include Kris Kringle, creating an extra opportunity for an additional volunteer and/or race
  • Implementing a Zoom link for some of our monthly meetings to include those who simply cannot make the meetings in person.
  • Included our club coordinated holiday morning group runs as well as our recently revived club coordinated weekend group runs.

Upcoming Opportunities to keep in mind:

Race and Volunteer: Blues Cruise, Oley Valley Country Classic, Shiver by the River December, and Kris Kringle

Monthly membership meetings: Only 3 more meetings for this year. September, October, and November. No Zoom link for September but we’ll go back to that for October and November meetings.

Group Run: There are 17 Wednesdays left in the year, a few holidays and a chance of weekend group runs

Congrats to the following members who have already completed and turned in their passport. Will your name be added to this list next?

Embrace Health and Wellness at the Guts & Glory Digestive & Wellness Expo

The Pacers membership table will be set up at this free event on September 24th from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. It is an all-ages, pet-friendly, outdoor, community event celebrating health and wellness. Sounds like a perfect place to promote our club and what we are all about amongst other like-minded, healthy, active people. If you have some time to spare and would like to represent the Pacers at this event, please reach out to Michelle Henry (president@pagodapacers.com) for more details. This is a good way to cross off a volunteer block on your Pacer Passport. You can learn more about the event here. If you already planned on being at the event, but sure to stop by our table and say hi!

Club Elections Are Right Around the Corner

It’s almost that time again! Club elections are just a little over 2 months away. There will be 5 open board positions for the upcoming election as well as the position of President of the Pagoda Pacers Athletic Club. If you are interested in stepping up and taking on a leadership role in helping to shape the club’s future direction, please consider nominating yourself for one of the open positions. To be considered for any of these positions a candidate must be a Pagoda Pacer member in good standing for at least one year. If you are considering stepping up to either of these opportunities but want to know more, I encourage you to reach out to any of the current board members or current President Michelle Henry over the next month to find out how their experience has been.

More details will be given, and nominations will be accepted in October, but this is just your nudge to start thinking about the impact you can have on the club if you were to be elected for one of these open positions. Be on the lookout for more info next month.
