The 33rd annual SHIVER by the RIVER 5K & 10K is quickly approaching. The first one is Dec 11th, at Jim Dietrich Park, in Muhlenberg Twp. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m.; both races start at 10:00 a.m. If you can’t run all 4 of them, run 3, run 2, or run 1.
Runners can register online at Pretzel City Sports or by mailing the app and a check; we will also have race-day registration. Apps can be printed from the Pacer website. Pre-registration deadline is 11/18. Instead of another race shirt, we are offering a knit hat and gloves. Each race includes a post-race buffet of soup, pretzels, and snacks.
If you choose not to run the race, please consider volunteering. We need volunteers before the race, for parking and registration; during the race – on the road, at the finish line, and in the farmhouse; and after the race – for cleanup. Thank you in advance for your support!
Hope to see you there!!!

We presented our donation to the Special Olympics of Berks County from proceeds from the Charlie Horse Trail Half Marathon and Dirty Pony 5K, with additional donations from race participants and the Pagoda Pacers A.C. We made the presentation at the SO Bocce team practice at St Marco’s in Temple. The team practices once a week from August to late October and then attends a competition at Fall Fest at Villanova in November.
–Shaun Luther, race director, Charlie Horse Half-Marathon and Dirty Pony 5k
Much of the revenue that the Pagoda Pacers take in from putting on Berks County’s signature ultramarathon, The Blues Cruise 50k, gets reinvested into the trail system at Blue Marsh Lake. Below are some images of recent improvements made possible by our club’s donations!

The Pacers will be hosting a group run at Trexler Nature Preserve on Saturday, October 8th, at 9:30 a.m.
The plan is to run the perimeter trail, which is about 9-10 miles.
There will also be a group doing a shorter route, and there are lots of options to add or subtract miles for those who want to do a little more or a little less.
When: Saturday, October 8th, 9:30 a.m.
Where: Trexler Preserve Environmental Center Parking Lot, 4935 Orchard Rd, Schnecksville, PA 18078
Facebook Event: https://www.facebook.com/events/2945472395761028

Our mid-week group runs have at least two different distance options (3-4 miles and 5-6 miles) with an appointed leader for each route. Each run will have its own Facebook “event,” and the routes will be posted a couple days before the run. After each run, those who can will stick around for food, drink, and good conversation, either at a nearby restaurant or a club member’s residence. Come for the run; stay (if you can) for the fellowship. (If you don’t have time to stick around, no worries–just come run with us!)
IT’S GETTING DARK EARLIER–WEAR REFLECTIVE GEAR AND BRING A HEADLAMP OR FLASHLIGHT!
October 5: Redner’s in Douglassville; post-run at Douglassville Hotel Restaurant and Bar
October 12: Wyomissing Quarry Soccer fields (road/trail options) ****bring a new runner out!!!! Post-run at Paolo’s
October 19: Run from Wilson West Middle School — Bryan & Patti Page hosting post-run at 120 States Ave., Sinking Spring
October 26: Jim Dietrich Park (Muhlenberg)–Post-run at Tlacuani Mexican Restaurant Bar & Grill
All runs start at 6:15 p.m.

Technically it’s not too late to start on one of these, but you must act now because time IS running out!
Throughout the year we have implemented some improvements to make this a little easier to complete. Changes include:
Upcoming Opportunities to keep in mind:
Race and Volunteer: Blues Cruise, Oley Valley Country Classic, Shiver by the River December, and Kris Kringle
Monthly membership meetings: Only 3 more meetings for this year. September, October, and November. No Zoom link for September but we’ll go back to that for October and November meetings.
Group Run: There are 17 Wednesdays left in the year, a few holidays and a chance of weekend group runs
Congrats to the following members who have already completed and turned in their passport. Will your name be added to this list next?

Sounds like a perfect place to promote our club and what we are all about amongst other like-minded, healthy, active people. If you have some time to spare and would like to represent the Pacers at this event, please reach out to Michelle Henry (president@pagodapacers.com) for more details. This is a good way to cross off a volunteer block on your Pacer Passport. You can learn more about the event here. If you already planned on being at the event, but sure to stop by our table and say hi!
